Young Fundraising Hero Takes on Epic “Rivathon” Challenge

Inspirational young fundraiser Casper is taking on an extraordinary challenge to support ELF. He is swimming the equivalent length of the River Mole - an impressive 49.5km - by completing 2,295 lengths at the SMART Swim Centre in South Molton.

Casper’s motivation comes from his own family’s experience. In 2022, his mother, Katherine, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while pregnant with his youngest brother, Reuben.

Reflecting on that time, Casper said, “ELF supported my family when my mum was diagnosed. She was pregnant with my youngest brother at the time, so she really kept everyone at the hospital very busy!"

“Mum stayed on Yarty Ward for a whole week every three weeks while she was having chemotherapy. ELF paid for lots of things there, including a suite of rooms in the Chevithorne Critical Care Unit, which my brother Felix and I loved exploring. They also provided tea and coffee for Dad and lots of snacks too.”

The Chevithorne Critical Care Unit opened in 2017 following a dedicated fundraising appeal. The private family suite on Yarty Ward at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital includes a patient room, family room, small garden, and kitchen - allowing families to remain close to their loved ones during difficult times.

Casper added, “Mum and Reuben are both doing great now, so I’d like to raise money to say thank you to ELF and help other patients with blood cancers.”

This remarkable challenge highlights both Casper’s determination and his desire to give back to a cause close to his heart.
