Gift Aid FAQs

The most frequently asked questions about Gift Aid...

Am I eligible for Gift Aid?

To be eligible for Gift Aid, you have to be a UK taxpayer who is paying tax on your salary, savings, investments, pensions or capital gains. As long as the total tax you pay at least equals the amount ELF, and other charities you donate to, can reclaim on your donations.

How much more will my donations be worth?

For every donation you give, we get an extra 25% from the government. So if you give £4, we can get an additional £1. A £20 gift will be worth £25, with the extra £5 coming from the government. Donations you've made in the past, up to four years ago, also count.

Are there any hidden charges?

No. Gift Aid is taken from tax you've already paid, so there's no charge to you. And it doesn't affect your tax status either.

Do I have to make a declaration for every donation?

No. Once you've completed and returned your form, you won't have to do it again for ELF. However, you will need to let us know if your tax status changes by calling 01392 493344.

What if I donate through Gift Aid to other charities?

That's great. You can Gift Aid all your donations to different charities – you just have to tick the Gift Aid declaration for each charity you support, and make sure you pay enough tax to cover them. Again, if you're unsure, feel free to call us on 01932 493344.
