Ant Grill's knockout challenge for his 10 year remission anniversary
This year, Ant Grills celebrates his 10 year remission anniversary following an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) diagnosis in March 2012.
For the following three years, Ant received intensive chemotherapy on Yarty ward. During that period, he needed a double hip replacement due to his treatment program, and suffered with aplastic anaemia, pneumonia, a blood clot on the lung and sepsis. In his own words, this provided plenty of character building opportunities along the path to recovery!
"Whilst in isolation, ELF kindly provided counselling for me, and whilst waiting for my hip replacement I stayed in the lovely flat ELF used to own. The wonderful Yarty ward is supported by ELF, so for my 10 year anniversary I wish to give something back to them".
On Saturday 14th March, Ant is taking part in a Charity Fight Night in aid of ELF and has raised an incredible £1,600 to date. Tickets are available at The Big Sheep in Bideford for anyone wishing to go and cheer him on.
Thank you, Ant, for sharing your story and good luck from everyone at ELF - you've got this!

UPDATE - 23RD MARCH 2026
We are delighted to confirm that, following 14 weeks of intensive training, Ant won his charity boxing match!
Ant returned to Yarty ward where he'd fought the battle of his life. We were delighted to reunite Ant with members of the NHS team who cared for him over a decade ago. Plenty of hugs and stories were shared as Ant presented ELF with an amazing £2,500 donation from his boxing match, to help those facing their own blood cancer battles.
Thank you Ant, and many congratulations upon your 10 year remission anniversary!
