Haematology Team tackle Dartmoor in a Day
On Saturday 14th September, nine NHS staff members from Yarty ward and the Haematology Centre tackled a 'Dartmoor in a Day' trekking challenge to further support the patients in their care.
The team consisted of Yarty doctors, nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Clinical Practitioners. In glorious sunshine, they walked 30km from Postbridge to Ivybridge across the moor, encountering hills, streams, ponies and more hills along the way. Two of the team even decided to challenge themselves further by completing the extended 50km route, running the additional 20km earlier in the day before catching up with the rest of their colleagues!
Advanced Clinical Practitioner Rachael Jones said " I suggested this challenge to my colleagues as I wished to give something back to ELF at the end of my fellowship year (see our previous news story here). We are all very grateful for the equipment and support ELF provides for the NHS team on the ward, and we see on a daily basis the difference that the charity's services make to the lives of our patients and their relatives."
Rachael added "Thank you to everyone for your support and donations! We had a wonderful day on Dartmoor; the weather couldn't have been more perfect and everyone did so well."
The team have to date raised over £2,800 in sponsorship from their Dartmoor trek. Our sincere thanks to David, Dawn, Jodie, Nicki, the three Rachels, Sarah and Tom for their efforts and for their ongoing dedication to the patients and families in their care.
