ELF Group Skydive raises £15,000
Last month, 10 brave supporters took to the skies at Skydive Buzz in Dunkeswell for ELF's 35th Anniversary group skydive. The ultimate fundraising challenge, each of them jumped out of a plane at 15,000ft for 60 seconds freefall before then gliding back to earth enjoying the stunning Devon scenery below them.
Collectively, the group raised an incredible £15,000 in sponsorship for ELF. Each supporter taking part had their own special reason for jumping for ELF, be it as a former blood cancer patient or in support or memory of a loved one who was treated at the RD&E's Haematology Centre. It was a fantastic day under clear blue skies and we are very grateful to each of them for taking part.
Maria Carmona Diaz, Niamh Jones and Aoife Jones only registered for the ELF Skydive one month before the jump date, and in that time, they raised a staggering £12,000. The girls were jumping as a show of thanks for the treatment and support Yarty ward and ELF are providing Conor, a current Lymphoma patient on the ward. Maria writes:
"At the beginning of May, my partner and love of my life Conor was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Our whole world was flipped upside down. The last two and a half months have been the scariest of our lives and the fight continues. The support and help that (ELF) provide for patients like Conor is incredible and we're very grateful for all that they do."
We were delighted that Conor was well enough to be discharged for the day to cheer on Maria and his sisters as they took the plunge. A massive thank you to the three of them for their amazing fundraising achievement and our best wishes to Conor for his ongoing treatment and recovery.
